I am obsessed with makeup, but obsessed may not even be the right word to use. I'm constantly on the lookout for the newest, "hottest" product on the market that may work for my tastes and skin type. But most of the time I can never make up my mind.
I am also obsessed with buying makeup and I am also very picky when it comes to purchasing makeup. It ends up being an entire process for me. Here are some of the "steps" I take when it comes to deciding on a specific product.
1. The What
I sometimes make impulse buys, but let's face it we all do. But when I know I need a specific product, like the concealer I just ran out of, or the eyeliner that turned out to be a dud, that's where I start my search. However, most of the time I come across a product either in a fancy display in the store or recommended by a beauty guru on youtube. Then I'm hooked.
2. The Truth
Once I've set my sights on a product, I want to find out everything I can about it before I buy it. This is mostly because I don't like wasting my money on useless products that don't work for me. I'll search reviews on youtube, on blogs, store reviews, and I'll even ask around to see if anyone I know has ever tried it. I try to pay attention to the reviews that mimic myself, for example: I have normal/dry skin, so if someone with oily skin doesn't like a specific foundation she recently tried, that doesn't mean that I won't like it. I hate missing out on the great products, but I also hate duds.
3. The Store
Once I've decided that the product is worth checking out in the store, that's where I head. Most of the time in the drugstore you can't really get the plastic off of the products to check the colors and consistency, but sometimes you can. You just have to be stealthy but also not look like you're trying to steal anything. You have nothing to hide, you're just trying some makeup! If it's a product that has the cardboard and plastic packaging that is absolutely forbidden to open, that's normally when extra research comes into play, so I can make sure I'm getting the right one.
4. The Checkout
Once I've headed towards the checkout line, a variety of emotions start to take place: fear, guilt, and doubt. Yes I know, pathetic right? It's just makeup. But I'm very weird about buying makeup as you can tell. I'm scared for the fact that it may not work right for me, guilty because I'm spending my money on something I probably don't need, and I start to think I that I shouldn't buy it. But once the card is swiped, the deed is done. And a different emotion overcomes me: excitement.
5. The Un-boxing
I feel like a kid on christmas morning when I get home with my new makeup. And sometimes the packaging doesn't make it until I get home. I pull off the plastic, go to the mirror, and try it out for the first time. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. But that's all part of the fun.
